BIAC Investigator Recognized as Distinguished Emeritus
BIAC faculty, Dr. David Madden, was one of 18 professors recognized recently as Distinguished Emeriti by the Duke University School of Medicine. The Distinguished Emeriti Faculty Celebration was held on June 23rd, 2026, at the Washington Duke Inn. The event was hosted by Dr. Mary Klotman, Executive Vice President and Dean of the School of Medicine, and Dr. Mara Becker, Vice Dean for Faculty. Dr. Madden began his career at Duke as a postdoctoral fellow in 1977 and joined the faculty of the Medical School in 1981. He has been a core faculty member at BIAC since 2011 and Chair of the BIAC Scientific Review Committee since 2013. He is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

High-resolution structural connectivity mediates age-related differences in functional connectivity and fluid cognition
Merenstein et al. reported that structural brain connectivity, as measured by high-resolution diffusion-weighted MRI, improved the ability to predict age-related alterations in brain function and cognitive performance, relative to standard spatial resolution. These results may assist with the early identification of adults who are at heightened risk for cognitive decline.
Alexandra Dwulit promoted to Clinical Research Intern
Alexandra Dwulit of the Morey Lab was promoted from a Non-Duke Student Intern to a full-time Clinical Research Intern. She is also currently pursuing her Ph.D. at NC State in Comparative Biomedical Sciences. Congrats Alex!
